XVth Century Banners - Schwyz
LA BANNIERE de la Suisse. On note ici une évolution de la bannière au fur et à mesure des enluminures. On part d'une bannière pleine et rouge puis d'une bannière avec une crucifixion entièrement représentée sur une bannière rectangulaire avant de passer à la bannière très connue utilisée comme drapeau de la Suisse (dans les mêmes proportions).
Par chance, je suis tombé sur la bannière des tireurs correspondant : la forme est triangulaire avec le symbole de spécialité (ici une arbalete). A noter que si j'ai affecté cette bannière à Schwyz, mais au vu ddes couleurs, il pourrait aussi bien s'agir d'une bannière d'un autre canton.
Ce qui est interessant et qui me font pencher sur une hypothèse de la réalité matérielle de ces bannières, c'est que l'on voit celles-ci évoluer au fur et à mesure des chroniques, qui sont donc une sources importante de représentation pour moi.
THE BANNER of Switzerland. We note here an evolution of the banner as the illuminations progress. We start from a full red banner, then a banner with a crucifixion entirely represented on a rectangular banner before moving to the very famous banner used as the flag of Switzerland (in the same proportions).
By chance, I came across the corresponding shooters' banner: the shape is triangular with the specialty symbol (here a crossbow). Note that if I assigned this banner to Schwyz, but considering the colors, it could be a banner of another canton as well.
What is interesting and what makes me lean on a hypothesis of the material reality of these banners, is that we see them evolve as the chronicles go along, which are therefore an important source of representation for me.
