XVth Century Banners - Burgundia Duke Banners
After having warmed up the Swiss, who did not ask for so much, Louis XI launched them against the territories of Burgundy.
Unfortunately for him, Charles the bold will lose his troops, his treasure, his influence and finally his life in less than 4 decisive battles. He left such treasures to the Swiss during these defeats that the legend says that diamonds were traded for less than a gold coin. In any case, the Swiss troops brought back and especially kept a superb set of Burgundian banners found on the field.
To begin with, I offer you the banners with the Duke's arms. These are mainly from the main sources. According to the ordinances, each company had a set of matching banners representing a saint as well as ducal banners.
The sources (see the bibliography at the end of the articles) have reported 3 main types of banners: the square ones, the rectangular ones and the tails banners. I have also added the banner that floated on the Duke's tent, cipales bannières ducale de Bourgogne -guerres de Bourgogne.
